STEP 3 - me and others: Have you filled a bucket today?, IC2 "Arnolfo di Cambio" secondary - Italy

As well as working on the fable "Friends", together with our Twins of primary school, we also reflected, with the help of our English Teacher, on  HAVE YOU FILLED A BUCKET TODAY?, another of the stories that we chose together with our partners (see here).

Here's how we worked on the story:

- we read the story (in English)

- we watched the video on youtube

- we discussed it (in English): how can you fill somebody elses's bucket?

- we exchanged ideas

- in groups of three, we chose one common idea and eventually created a poster

our poster

- we discussed our ideas and reading with our partners in an online meeting with Hungary and Sant'Andrea primary school.

Step 3 - me and the others ; Szegedi Orczy István Általános Iskola, Hungary

We got to know our common story with the second graders. The story captured their imagination, and they eagerly awaited the end of the tale. This time, it was their task to come up with the ending. What could the lion have whispered in the antelope's ear? What might have been the last sentence? Who is the true friend? Several solutions were born regarding the question. “Don’t be afraid of me!” “I have already had dinner.” “What happened to you?” “Will you be my friend?” “I am not hungry,” “You are not alone.”
In relation to the topic, we thought together about friendship. We held a separate session on how someone might feel when they are excluded. We talked about what we can do to make everyone feel accepted. According to the children, if we pay attention to our peers, we can express that we love them.
On May 9, 2024, we celebrated the birthday of eTwinning. We joyfully participated in the celebration with our partners. Excitedly, we begin the next tasks. :-)

STEP 3 "ME AND THE OTHERS"- Collaborative activity on the story "Friends" - IC2 of Poggibonsi - Italy - classes 3C and 3D

For step 3 my Extra English classes worked on the story "Friends". It took 4 lessons to complete this step.

LESSON 1: I have asked them to work in small groups of three students. Each group had to read the fable aloud playing the role of the monkey, the antelope and the narrator of the story. Next they had to complete the story by adding the lion’s sentence and writing the ending of the story.

LESSON 2: Each group shared their ideas with the rest of class. Some of them didn’t grab the real meaning of the story at the beginning and came up with some funny and original sentences.

“I’m vegan! I won’t eat you!” by Gemma

“I won’t eat you, I’ll eat another antelope!” by Pietro

“I’m just looking for some friends!” by Martina

Some of them caught it immediately.

“Today you’re safe, but you have to learn how to choose a real friend” Niccolò G.

“Be careful! That monkey is selfish!” by Niccolò R

“That monkey isn’t a real friend, also I don’t like the taste of the antelopes. No offence!!” by Ilaria

It was funny to read all the sentences aloud and sharing different perspectives and points of view.

LESSON 3: Students were asked to write down the sentences in the shared presentation. Eventually I launched a Google Form with some of the most popular sentences and asked them to choose and vote the best one.

LESSON 4: I have asked my students to discuss about the topic of firendship and write their personal comments on the forum section. Each students was encouraged to answer to the following questions :

  1. What's the best book or story you have ever read about friendship?
  2. Are you a good friend?
  3. Better one best friend or many friends?
  4. What is a real friend? What qualities do you look for in a friend?

Next we got ready to celebrate the E-Twinning Day. I didn’t expect my students to be so involved in this creative activity. I let them choose the idea for the picture and this is what we came up with:

On the 9th of May we watched the video created with our partners. They were proud to be part of this amazing project!!!

STEP 3 - FRIENDS collaborative video

Bravo everybody!

STEP 3 - Meeting primary-secondary classes, IC2 Arnolfo di Cambio, Italy - eTwinning Day, May the 9th

Classes 5°B - Sant'Andrea and 1°B - Colle di Val d'Elsa decided to celebrate the eTwinning Day working together on the story FRIENDS

  • The students of the two classes were divided into 5 groups.

  • They read the text together and discussed the possible ending.

  • Each group created a final sentence.

  • Eventually, the students voted their favourite sentence.

  • The chosen sentences were written in the shared ppt.

  • The students read the sentences written by the partner classes and compared perspectives.

We also celebrated browsing the eTwinning portal and watching the different activities realized by the European schools for the eTwinning Day.

At the end of the meeting, we watched the video we created with our partners and ate some sweets. It was a great eTwinning Day!

STEP 3 - collaborative work on the fable called "Friends" - OŠ Rudolfa Strohala Lokve, Croatia

My classes 5, 6 and 7 read the fable "Friends" by themselves, while the younger ones aged 9 and 10 listened to me read it. Some students didn't pick on the moral of the fable straight away and came up with some pretty funny answers about the words that the lion whispered in the antelope's ear, such as:

I know you are pretending to be dead. Don't lie!

I'll eat the monkey when I catch him asleep!

I don't like eating antelopes!

Then we talked about what makes a true friend and the meaning of friendship in everyday life.

Also I organized an activity with all of my classes around the topic of friendship. I put several post its on my students' backs in each of the participating classes in the project and they had to write on their friends' backs what they liked and appreciated about their classmates. Later we read lovely messages of friendship on each post it - it stayed in my students' hands as a lovely reminder of kind words written by classmates. Enjoy the pictures!

STEP 3 - collaborative activity "FRIENDS"

Let's put together our ideas!
Once the class has agreed on the final sentence, post it here, in this shared presentation.
And have a look at the others' ideas!
Remember:
just one slide, just one sentence + name of school, class, teacher, Country.
Thank you.

STEP 3 - forum activity

What's a true friend? Can books actually help us in making friends? And what are the best books about friendship you've ever read?

All of these questions - and many more - in our forum section!

STEP 3 - me and others, Saint Joseph Primary School-Pefki-GREECE (Classes St1 +St2)

Before we closed for our Easter Holidays we read the story of The Lion and the Antelope and I made a collage of their answers...

They were surely very unexpected and funny but ... creative ones.

Please enjoy our collage! We are going to see you on the 13th!

Step 3 - me and others, Friends - Artova Gazipaşa Primary School, Aydanur Ay

We read the story 'Friends'. My students really wondered and got excited about the end of the story. We wrote our sentences and I read the end to my students. Some were right, some had really different opinions. It was great to see how excited and eager to hear the end of the story. At the end of the activity, to check if they get the point,we mimed the story with our toys :)

STEP 3 - collaborative activity (DEADLINE, May the 9th)

We will start this step with a common work on this fable about friendship: FRIENDS

Activity:

1) READ the story with your students, cutting out  the last sentence and leaving the last antelope's words: "He said..."

2) ASK YOUR STUDENTS: what did the lion say?

3) The students share ideas, then EACH CLASS COMES UP WITH A SINGLE SENTENCE.

4) During the online meetings, the classes SHARE WITH THE PARTNERS THEIR SENTENCES AND DISCUSS THEM.

5) We eventually read what the original story says and we compare our sentences.

6) Each class writes their sentence on a piece of paper: A COLLABORATIVE PRODUCT WILL BE MADE OUT OF ALL THE SENTENCES.

Enjoy!

Note: since we are running out of time, there is a deadline for this activity.
So please, come up with your class sentence by the 9th of May.

STEP 3 - Me and others - Friends and relationships

STEP 3 - moving on: from ourselves to the others!

This step deals with the exploration of relationships: we will concentrate on how and why we create bridges that go from "me" to "us".

This time, as well as the different readings freely chosen by the classes, we will work on a bunch of common readings, suggested by the Croatian teacher Vedrana:

1) FRIENDS

2) HAVE YOU FILLED A BUCKET TODAY?

3) ANGER, THE BOY AND THE FENCE

The aim of this step is to have the students reflect on friendship (and what makes a "good friend") and supportive collaboration in personal relationships.

So take your books, call your friends and classmates and... let's go!
