My classes 5, 6 and 7 read the fable "Friends" by themselves, while the younger ones aged 9 and 10 listened to me read it. Some students didn't pick on the moral of the fable straight away and came up with some pretty funny answers about the words that the lion whispered in the antelope's ear, such as:
I know you are pretending to be dead. Don't lie!
I'll eat the monkey when I catch him asleep!
I don't like eating antelopes!
Then we talked about what makes a true friend and the meaning of friendship in everyday life.
Also I organized an activity with all of my classes around the topic of friendship. I put several post its on my students' backs in each of the participating classes in the project and they had to write on their friends' backs what they liked and appreciated about their classmates. Later we read lovely messages of friendship on each post it - it stayed in my students' hands as a lovely reminder of kind words written by classmates. Enjoy the pictures!
Some of my students also came up with funny ideas. We both laughed and learned :)
ReplyDeleteSame for us: some of the students even suggested the antelope took revenge on the monkey!!!
